The same is happening over here in the UK. Post Offices are shutting left, right and centre because people are not using them as much and email is so convenient. Our postal service keeps suffering from strikes which makes it even less attractive for people to send letters or parcels with them. It’s self perpetuating.

Well, I wouldn’t call it jealousy; paranoia of the lumbering collossus to the south is more like it. But when you look deep into the social ethos of both countries, Americans and Canadians are as distinct from each other as the British are to all of us. I’m a Canadian, but I like Americans. Awesome nation, you guys are. Ignore the paranoid wacks, sensible Canadians realize that we really couldn’t have a better neighbor or friend than the USA.

Regarding the lower value of the dollar this piece from Canada’s Financial Post

“In case anybody checked, the dollar’s path has been steadily downward since the early years of the administration of George W. Bush. And, notwithstanding the bleating you hear about the battered buck, that’s just fine with Wall Street,” wrote Barron’s this week.

A lower dollar has historically sparked equity rallies, it added, citing a Barclays Capital report that more than 30% of revenues for S&P’s 500 firms come from abroad. So devaluation will enhance their earnings on conversion, notably in technology, energy, materials and industrial sectors.
